“These 160 women are the faces of exciting careers in manufacturing,” said Jennifer McNelly, president, The Manufacturing Institute. “We chose to honor these women because they each made significant achievements in manufacturing through positive impact on their company and the industry as a whole. “The STEP Awards are part of the larger STEP Ahead initiative launched to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry through recognition, research, and best practices for attracting, advancing, and retaining strong female talent.
Amy graduated in 2007, with a degree in chemical engineering, from University of Illinois. Her career began as an automotive coating process engineer focused on continuous improvement and statistical process control. Amy joined the Pixelligent team in April of 2012 and she was a critical member of the team that successfully designed and installed Pixelligent’s largest ever high temperature, high pressure reactor for the pilot scale synthesis of its nanocrystals. This reactor line has enabled Pixelligent to increase capacity to over 4 tons of dispersions per year. In her current role as Manger of Pilot Operations, she is responsible for the day-to-day management of Pixelligent’s manufacturing operations and the team of dedicated process engineers.
In addition to her day job, Amy developed a strong commitment to mentoring students in STEM. She served as a professional mentor for the Case Western Reserve University chapter of Engineers without Borders. She also worked with Minds Matter in Cleveland, OH. Minds Matter is an all-volunteer nonprofit focusing on educational programs for underprivileged, urban high school students.
“Amy exemplifies the caliber of professionalism and commitment that has enabled Pixelligent to attain its reputation as a standalone leader in its field. We salute her as a 2014 Science, Technology, Engineering and Production (STEP) Award Honoree”, commented Dan Russell, SVP of Manufacturing & Operations for Pixelligent Technologies.
On February 6, 2014, The Manufacturing Institute will recognize 160 recipients of the STEP Awards at a reception in Washington, D.C. The STEP Awards program will highlight each honoree’s story, including their leadership and accomplishments in manufacturing.
